All Trees; Elms, Sycamores, Willows and More

Here I stand
At the edge
Of the meadow
Where the others once stood
My roots are solid
And yet I know
That one day, I too
Will be gone
I think
About the elders
With their knots
And burls
Given by time
When they were
Our guardians
Standing for centuries
Before me
Before my brothers
And my sisters
Now is our time
We are the windbreakers
The protectors
Surrounding the fields
It is only temporary
As our children
And the unborn
Are behind us
Today I grieve
For my mother and father
They are gone forever
Ingrid Boon 2003
In honor of my mother, Maud Boon
